Hey there. I'm going to be writing up a review of the book John Dies at the End soon. Would it be possible for me to use this picture in it?
Either way, I want to tell you that this looks amazing. You really capture the tricky blend of horror and comedy that the novel pulls of so well. Love the facial expressions, especially Molly's. And the colors are just perfect.
Oh my gosh I am so sorry for the late response on this! I don't check DA nearly as much as I should! Haha, but yeah! Feel free to, thank you very much for asking permission first! Also, thank you very much for your kind comments! I tried really hard to get that feeling of comedy and horror that you mentioned. So it's very appreciated! If you don't mind, feel free to message me the review once you're done, I would love to read it!
Thank you so much! I don't check deviantart often enough either, so I understand. I'm really happy you're letting me use it. I could have used the cover of the book, but I felt like your art is so much better at capturing the actual feeling of the story! Thank you again! ^_^
I finally got my hands on a copy which I will be starting as soon as I finish what I'm reading now (which is awful. Blarg!) I'm glad to see that the general consensus is that this book is everything I'm hoping it is!
Great! Hopefully you enjoy it. It's definitely a...different, read. It's one of my favorite books by far, but it involves drug use, monsters, existential crises, and dimension jumping. There's also a scene that involves a flying, flesh eating mustache. So if that at all sounds like something you're interested in, you will DEFINITELY like this book.
I have such mixed feelings about the movie. I have such love for the book, and when they announced the movie I thought it was going to be the coolest thing. And it started out with such promise! I was even on board halfway through the movie and then it just sort of felt like it fell apart. I have this weird stance where I feel like I REALLY want to like the movie, but the changes they made, characters they cut, and plotlines removed just made it into something else. The real shame is in watching it to see the potential there for them to have made an AMAZING film but not do it.
Yeah, exactly. But even so, Amy wasn't even Amy, Amy in the movie was basically Jen with a prostectic hand. xD RIGHT? I was so pissed! Molly is a SUPER important part of the book and then just... BARK LEE. LIKE, ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Thank you so much! Sorry for the incredibly delayed reply, haven't been on DA in waaaaaaaay too long. Anyway! To be honest, Amy's curls just came from looking up a LOT of reference for that kind of hair. Both photos and other illustrations(I will totally admit that I looked at Merida from Brave for an idea how to even convey that many curls in pen and ink). Looking at the way it falls and curls and just trying to make it look like it had actual flow to it. I'd honestly love to do a JDaTE graphic novel if it ever came up, haha. Though I am actually gonna be doing a follow up to this drawing soon for "This Books is Full of Spiders" sometime soon!
haha awesome! finished reading JDATE just yesterday and the way you portrayed the characters is pretty much how i imagined them. the composition and all those references are great aswell! love it oh and what a sick, sick book that is. cant wait to see the movie!
This is probably my favorite jdate fanart so far... it's got great characterization AND great references combined with strong composition... Most of the other fans have only one of those aspects in their tributes.
Although, I feel Dave could look more disheveled and on edge... maybe it's in his eyes.
I'm so glad you like it!!(both the drawing and the book) It's quickly become one of my favorites. Everything about that book I just freaking adore.
And thanks!! It's so cool to see people pick up all of the little details in it. Someone on Tumblr had actually tagged this with "Amy's Glasses" and "the Bible Bat" and I swear I couldn't have been any happier.
